Job duties include: 

  • Performing regular inspections of residential and commercial and industrial businesses, organizations, schools for general fire safety and code compliance. 
  • Plan review regarding Fire Code and for all types of permits, including building, fire, discretionary and subdivision.
  • Examining and recommending correction to building plans/construction to comply with the International Fire Code.
  • Conducting fire origin and case investigations and preparing investigation reports.
  • Answering phone, email and counter questions for Fire Code and perform pre-screening of plans and project proposals.
  • Obtaining and maintaining a Sheriff's Office Special Deputy Sheriff' Commission and carrying a rotational pager cell phone and being promptly available for emergency service after hours.

Supervisor:  Building Services Division Manager


Requires an Associate’s degree, one year of fire service experience AND 18 months of fire inspection experience OR five years of fire service experience AND 18 months of fire inspection experience.

Must possess an International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector II certification and maintain throughout employment. 

Successful completion the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) Basic Fire Investigation course, or accredited equivalent required.

Requires completion of NFPA compliant classes related to fire sprinklers, fire pumps, water tanks, private water mains, fire alarm systems, and other automatic and manual fire protection systems.

Must possess or obtain a Sheriff’s Office Special Deputy Sheriff Commission within 18 months of employment and complete and maintain requirements associated with this Commission. 


Teamsters Master Collective Bargaining Agreement Range 150.3

$25.72 - $36.23 per hour

We anticipate hiring at $25.72 per hour; higher rate possible depending on qualifications.  

This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range. 

2019 wages currently under negotiation.
